Wrestling team kills raccoon (they think), puts it on bus, gets disqualified

Only in North Dakota (because in Wisconsin they would have, well, you know, with the roadkill).

The Carrington wrestling team had an unbeaten dual record this year and had won three straight region titles. On the drive to the region tournament, the bus stops because the kids see a raccoon and want to kill it. They do - with a pail - and put it in the storage area of the bus. When they get to the tournament, the raccoon, much to their surprise, walks away. Not dead. The Carrington administration then pulls the team out of the tournament because of fears the students were exposed to the raccoon and possibly rabies. Goodbye region championship. Chaos ensues. The administration tried putting the wrestling coach, who allowed the kids to get off the bus, on leave, but the school board took no action, even though this apparently wasn't the first time the coach had gotten in trouble - although I'm not sure if any other incidents involved animals.

A buddy of mine's brother is the principal at the school. He's disgusted and dumbfounded by the athletes and coach. The school board didn't suspend the coach because they didn't want to disrupt the rest of the season, which still includes the individual region and state tourneys.

Supposedly one of the kids collects pelts so that's why they stopped, although it also might have just been for fun.

Did any of the wrestlers stick their finger up the raccoons ass and say it wasn't beastiality?

Carrington has a few idiot coaches, including the girls basketball coach, at least from last season. They guy was a coward for not speaking to the media after a blowout loss at state last year.

They screwed up about 20 different ways here....

    1 stoped the bus
    2 got off the bus
3 brought an animal on the bus
4 tried to kill the animals
    5 screwed that up
6 brought the animal into another school

This is not one bad decision, but a series of bad decisions which makes it much worse.

    Enough said.

I'm going to assume that because they were on their way to a tournament, and because they saw the thing, it had to be daylight. Nobody in their right mind would even approach a raccoon that's out-and-about during the daylight hours. The stupidity of some people amazes me (the kids, but more so the coach, and most so the school board).

Yeah, but how does that explain the non-action of the school board?

Obligatory "you only cover us when we stop the bus to kill a rancid raccoon" post.

Funny, the ref never saw the foreign object they used on the raccoon.

I'd bet $50 the raccoon had fewer viruses than the wrestlers did.

Obivously, the animal was just stunned and the wrestlers assumed it was road kill. But like previously posted ... wrestlers.
