Read it too fast. You're right, it would have been only marginally less of a deal if he'd signed with the Red Sox (actually, perhaps marginally more because of the 1986 angle, and really, who doesn't love an excuse to watch a 21-year-old World Series Game 6?) I don't notice ESPN's slobbering over the Red Sox because, frankly, I don't go to ESPN for Red Sox news. But I can see it being absolutely true that ESPN gives both teams too much attention. Though I think there's justification in giving them more attention than most other teams.

On the first night of the three-game series in Boston against the Yankees, there were several shots of a grown putz praying in the seats, hands clasped like a child, in the sixth inning. Keep in mind, just for a moment, this is the 14th game of the season. ESPN loves this stuff. And so do you.

I hate praying at baseball games or any other sporting event. It's damned near the most nonsensical thing I can think of.

Not particularly, no. I think it's ridiculous, the attention paid to the team both inside and outside the city. But I also enjoy being a fan, and dealing with the ups and downs of the team. Of course, if your team makes the world series and gets in a tense situation, someone will probably have their hands clasped. OH, but because it's actually a big game, that makes it cool, right?

Windu, the point is that it's never about dealing with the ups and downs of the team, you know, like actually having fun with it? It's been a fucking passion play for more than four score and seven years, and PEOPLE ARE TIRED OF IT. It's not cute or funny anymore, it's just weak.

And winning the whole thing hasn't even made all the blubbering go away. When they got swept by the Yankees in five games last summer, the noise was at the same contemptible levels it always was.
