    At least it wasn't a low-level sportswriter

It was a tale of two sex organs ...

I used to work in an operating room as an orderly and I can assure you I never did anything like that. Nor did the doctors. As for the tastelessness of the Lede, it's something you might expect in Canadian journalism, particularly in Toronto. There are a few writers there -- particularly female women-person journalists -- who are allowed by their publishers to get away with anything they want. Sometimes, they are so over-the-top they embarrass their publications.

Most of Lapointe's recent posts come off like someone trying to stir trouble so he can lecture his students about the twists and turns of message board communication.

He's just blaming Canada. It worked for Matt Stone and Trey Parker.

True, there is a lot to be learned -- by students and by veterans -- about the perils of email and twitter and text message journalism. It's easier than ever to be hoaxed. And my students certainly WILL study the Mainti Te'o affair this semester, which ends right about the time of the NFL draft. We shall see if everything affects his draft status (round, place). As for Canadian journalism, I still love it -- the French stuff, too. In some ways, it's more inhibited that American journalism because of libel laws. But in other ways, it's more free-swinging. I guess that's a pardox. Or something.

I feel like I just tried to communicate with Colonel Kurtz.

    Nonsensical responses, in a nutshell.
