He should have gotten a cool nickname like "Bullfrog Boggs."

    The Rays did.

And you forgot the two Gold Gloves; remember (as if you could forget, Chris), Boggs was a below-average fielder when he came up and made himself into a Gold Glove-caliber 3B. And the 12 All-Star teams. The career OBP of .415. The seven consecutive 100-run years. The seven consecutive 200-hit seasons. And on and on.

Yeah, he's completely undeserving of a plaque.

Was Pedro snubbed? I assume he'll get in when he's eligible.

  5. So the Rays who used Boggs as a marketing ploy to sell tickets "Come see Wade Boggs get his 3,000th hit!" retired his number but the team who knew him so much better never did - that should tell you something about the player.

Do you really think Boggs deserved 2 Gold Gloves? Was it any surprise he won those when he was with the Yankees with the Yankee media backing him? Those Gold Gloves are a joke.

The 12 All-Star games? Someone had to back up George Brett. When Boggs left - Scott Cooper was named to 2 All-Star teams. That's how weak 3rd base in the AL was during this period.

I grant you the .415 OBP if you grant me that Boggs was a one-trick pony.

The seasons with 100-runs scored - Jim Rice and Dwight Evans had more to do with that than Boggs. Or did he drive himself in?

Ted Williams never had a season with 200 hits - would you argue that Boggs is a better hitter because he had 7? No of course not.

    Utter fraud.

I didn't like Boggs either and really don't feel like defending him.

That being said he did lead the league in WAR three straight years. The only other Alers to achieve that fete are Cobb, Ruth, Gehrig and Mantle. I am not EVEN trying to say he is as good as them, but that is impressive company. The NL guys, for the record, are Bonds, Pujols, Schmidt, Mays, Hornsby, Wagner and the pride of Pittston, Pa., Hughie Jennings.

Boggs is a replacement-level Hall of Famer.

Not a Mendoza Liner like Maranville and the Frankie Frisch Gang.

But not Babe Ruth -- or Mike Schmidt or even George Brett.

Could it be because he also played with the Yankees?

This X a million. That Marvin Miller is not in the Baseball Hall of Fame is nothing but sheer spite on the part of the "Lords of Baseball." No one – NO ONE – in the past 60 years has had a bigger impact on the game than Marvin Miller.

Ford Frick and Happy Chandler -- ugh.

    Why not Spike Eckert?
