Worst Hall of Famers vs. Best Hall of Fame Snubs (MLB)

We've had so many Hall of Fame threads lately. What's one more? ;D

First compile a team of who you think are the worst hall of famers at each position. No Sparky Andersons at second base...only players that got into the hall based on what they did on the field, not coaching.

Then make another team of players who are not in the hall of fame. And no players who are just waiting to become eligible. This includes steroids guys who will be waiting a long time.

Then tell us who you think would win.

    Here's mine:

C : Ray Schalk vs. Deacon White
1 : George Kelly vs. Jeff Bagwell
2 : Bill Mazeroski vs. Ross Barnes
SS : Joe Tinker vs. Barry Larkin
3 : Freddie Lindstrom vs. Ron Santo
LF : Chick Hafey vs. Pete Rose
CF : Lloyd Waner vs. Pete Browning
RF : Tommy McCarthy vs. Joe Jackson
DH : Paul Molitor vs. Edgar Martinez
RHSP : Jesse Haines vs. Jim McCormick
LHSP : Rube Marquard vs. Billy Pierce
CL : Bruce Sutter vs. Lee Smith

Of course the non-HOFers are better...

I don't really have time to compile my own list, but I like the idea of this thread, much moreso than "Gregg Jeffries, HOFer?"

    Bagwell over McGwire?

I don't see Ryne Sandberg in the first column.

What about Ken Boyer at 3B instead of Santo?

Never mind. Looks like Santo was better. I was thrown off by Boyer's MVP.

I would be interested in your list, Dick.

  8. I don't think Rose should count. It's not a question of his numbers. He's just not eligible.

I find it strange that you said that about Rose, but no mention of Joe Jackson. Is it because you don't believe Jackson is a Hall of Famer?

Absolutely. I didn't remember that Bagwell was eligible - should have gone in on the first ballot.
