Common in these type of votes.

Depends on where you are. And who you talk to. The numbers for this "majority" aren't close to what they were even a decade ago.

Either or both. It would be probably be embarrassing if a country got none -- so there may have been an agreement to throw support for a round in which it was likely that no winner will be decided and Russia would advance.

England got two votes in the first round, each cost them 15 million pounds!

We got 3 votes in the first round:

First round: Australia 1, Japan 3, USA 3, Korea Republic 4, Qatar 11
Second round: Japan 2, Korea 5, USA 5, Qatar 10 votes
Third round: Korea 5, USA 6, Qatar 11
Fourth round: USA 8, Qatar 14

We got 5 of the 8 open votes, but we were dead, beacuse at 11-11, Sepp would have gotten the vote and it wouldn't be for the US.

Yeah, but it shows what B.S. it is.

(Supposedly, Lincoln had pledges from many delegates to be their second pick, and that's how he won the nomination.)

Grant Wahl's a little bitter that he was wrong about the U.S. being the frontrunner.

No kidding. The "we lost, so it must be fixed" theme is annoying.

Even though it is fixed. :D

Look, I think we need to get a little macro on this and see the real underlying concept at work. The rest of the world, broadly speaking, would just as soon have as little to do with the U.S. as possible. It's beyond the usual corruption, backscratching, etc. There's just no constituency for hosting world sports events here besides what exists inside the U.S.

They care about our market size and our TV money.

That's why we do get the Olympics and the World Cup from time to time.

And 90 percent of us can't find it on a map.
