so i post a full-time g.a. opening we have on a few job boards recently and get a reply from a young man offering his services as a freelancer in reply to one of the postings.what puzzled me is that his resume boasts of being part of a katie award winner the last two years when what he did was freelance for the paper in question. if you're going to stretch you connection to winning some award, at least make sure the awards haven't since been discredited because the freakin contest coordinator cheated and never had the damn entries judged!

The last thing I remember about the Katies (before the story broke) was a friend of mine at another campus paper in the state asking me if we had sent in any nominations, but the deadline was the next day.

I can see where it might not have mattered in the first place had we sent them in anyway considering the invisible judges wouldn't have been able to see the postmark.

we have a competitor who is still using the katie award they "won" last year as a promotional tool.

    Damn near APSE or SND.
Where we all sit around and nominate and vote for ourselves. ;)

They should be proud of it. It was hard work to rig that contest!
