Woman uncovers what may be the oldest baseball card

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by Evil ... Thy name is Orville Redenbacher!!, Jan 8, 2009.

  1. Saw this on Deadspin yesterday and thought it was pretty neat.

Old lady spends all summer selling stuff on e-bay including what looks like an old baseball card.
Turns out the card she listed for $10 on e-bay is an authentic 1869 baseball card that may worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Move over '52 Mantle and T206 Honus Wagner.

    I think she's from 1869.

Cool story. Glad she was savvy enough to realize that when a bunch of unusual questions started coming in (including a request to end the auction immediately and sell it to a particular ebayer) she needed to take a better look at it.

She damn near sold the thing for $10.

Yeah, but if she had listed it for $15, she would've been out 20 cents.

Way to end the story with the one question I was wondering the whole time - and never answer it.

    Lucky stiff.

Well, it appears she's ABOUT to be. Not lucky -- a stiff.
