WKRP on DVD disappoints

The DVD set of WKRP has music copyright issues, which have been resolved by using substitute music -- and cutting some footage.

Whoever heard of a DVD that offers less than the show had when it was on the air?

    This guy has details:

That was one of the concerns with people here before buying it when this was last brought up.
WKRP is as much the audio as it is the plot. Without the original music, it loses quite a bit of its allure.

The lack of scenes featuring Jan Smithers in a thong hurts, too.

If that review was accurate it's really disappointing. I understand the music licensing issue, but they had vowed to replace the songs they couldn't get with other, cheaper songs from the era. Not ideal, but a hell of a lot better than generic music and heavy editing.

They couldn't even get "Fly Me To The Moon" for Jennifer's doorbell? That's weak.

Sounds like bullshit. The music and plot were one.

Beavis and Butthead DVDs suffer from the same issues.

No Bailey Quarters in a thong?

As god is my witness, I thought the DVD's would be better.

Perhaps we're talking about a different league here, but I had the same experience with Moonlighting, though the soundtrack apparently remained intact.
