Wilpons Selling Part of Mets

The Mets are essentially broke. Many reports last summer that they were in such a hole they were unable to add to payroll due to issues with existing debt. And they're losing millions per year because of declining attendance.

The Mets aren't losing money. It's a bookkeeping trick.

Klapisch reported today the Mets' revenues are down 30-35 percent since moving to Citi Field.

This kind of stuff partly explains why Terry Collins is the manager and why they've been not just a non-factor but a virtual zero in free agency. If you haven't noticed, the Mets have quickly become a cheap organization.

Can't wait for the Wilpon family mouth piece - Mike Lupica to spin this one.

If it was not clear before it's now abundantly clear the the Wilpon financial meltdown has effected the Mets.

The number thrown around that the Feds want back is a billion dollars of ill gotten gains.

Just for BYH's sake I want to see The Wilpon"s being lead out of Citi Field in hand cuffs

And Lupica does not disappoint. Right on cue he is out with his "The Wilpons are Victims" column.

If anybody bought into Bernie on the strength of "The Wilpons are in on it, it must be good", and got skinned . . . well, you know the rest.

Ben, that would indicate most of Madoff's victims were NOT baseball fans. Anybody on this board, and millions of New Yorkers, would run for high ground if the Wilpons were cited as a reference for an investment.

I hear you, but their outside-business character references are infinitely stronger than their baseball acumen.

Some very interesting stuff here. Seems the Wilpons could be in some very deep financial shit:

You know the thing is that indirectly much of Met fan fan base took a hit as a result of Madoff / Wilpon malfeasance.

Love that Lupica is hitched to the Wilpons with no way out when they are lead off in chains.

Its clear now that they have been lying for past year to their fans.
