The remains of Jim Tressel's great programs from the 1990s are now in shambles. Sure, the Penguins still post winning records year in and year out, but the hunger for national success is long gone thanks to this guy.

He's largely despised by the fan base, but gets little criticism from the jock sniffing local media. That, in turn, has allowed him to continue to get paid by the University who believe he's doing a good job at churning out mediocrity. Since he had ties to Tressel's era, the university is very skittish to pull the plug...but everybody clearly sees that the time has come to insert some new blood into the program.

The beat guy from the Vindicator came into the press box at the school I cover a couple of years ago wearing a freaking YSU hat. Yeah, jock sniffing. That's about right.

Back when I was in college during the Tressel years, that same Vindy hack was wearing a YSU sweatshirt, hat and had a YSU jacket. I wrote an entire paper on this guy for my ethics class. Got an A. Considered mailing it to the sports editor but decided to let it go.

Oh that's sad, but not real surprising. But I gave up on the idea of the Vindicator as a real newspaper a long, long time ago. Last I heard, they were still kissing John York's ass to provide 49ers coverage in a community that lives and dies by the Browns or Steelers.

Forget the 49ers. The paper doesn't even cover the Browns, Steelers or Ohio State now. They're using stuff from the Canton Repository for all three. The call was made by the current newsroom boss.

It was John Bunting.

First post mentioned relationship with media, which would have taken Ted Roof out of the discussion.

And Bobby Lamb has few beat when it comes to failing at the end of games. I've seen bigger kidney stones than this guy's nuts.
