    2013 Mariano
    2014 Jetes
    2015 ?

The only one who comes to mind is Big Papi but doubtful that he
will retire in 2015 also wonder if they want to honor a known
    PED user.

Ortiz is a regional hero, not a national one. If he retires, the Red Sox will make a big deal about it, rightfully, and that'd be all.

Paul Konerko's getting that treatment right now in Chicago.

The NYT wrote a condescending piece about his final month and his career, the central theme of which was that nobody remembers his World Series heroics. Because no one, allegedly, paid attention to that World Series. Because no Yankeees and no Red Sox, you know.

Then that begs the question where have all the heroes gone or as Paul
Simon might put it "where have you gone Joe Dimaggio" ?

MLB definitely has a star quality void that will take years to resolve.

They need Verlander to keep up what he's done the last month. He became a cross-over star this summer.

A lot of people would get behind that.

The Red Sox named the street their stadium sits on for a virulent bigot.
