Yes, I concur with that. Both should have been/done so much more but their body of work is generally not bad.

Saw Social D at a show in Phoenix. Great, great band.

    Husker Du, Hoodoo Gurus, nice.

I'll add some Bob Mould Sugar as well.

I think I will turn on Napster.

Nice to see someone else went to college in the late 80s.

  4. You're bloody well wrong.
    Good band, though.

    16 Cream
    15 Pink Floyd
    14 Soundgarden
    13 Queen
    12 The Sex Pistols
    11 Aerosmith
    10 Kiss
    9 Guns N' Roses

    7 Van Halen
    6 Nirvana
    5 Metallica

Based on that list -- AC/DC, Queen and Aerosmith are under rated

    For anyone interested

    Bob Mould

    Replacements

    Pixies (God were they great)

    Hoodoo Gurus

And yes, we may have laughed at them a long time ago, but this band's songs just get better and better over time. I know it's not Zepplin or the Stones, but they are not that bad.

Song starts about a minute in.

So if I would say what is the one band that we forgot about laughed about as a goof, but they actually were pretty damn good... my money is on Men At Work

and my God, how the mighty have fallen

please watch the above video, it will shock you

Funny how clearly the music can date you. Yeah, in college from 1985 to 1990.

I've never seen Social D live, which is odd, because they're actually from my home town.

I never understood why the Hoodoo Gurus weren't bigger. Their best work is as good as anything from the era. Their bass player now has a side project with Rob Hirst (the drummer from Midnight Oil) called Ghostwriters. They're very good but impossible to find here. I just ordered their new CD from Australia.

  9. oh please

Tori Amos is a 10th-rate, watered-down, Kate Bush ripoff

the notion that Tori Amos influenced anybody is just silly. she stole the whole routine from Kate Bush, who did it 100 times better many years earlier

Tori is talented, but she's nowhere near Kate Bush's league for sure
