Two and a half years ago? Definitely... Now, not so much...

I'd have to agree Bush is probably up there these days.

How, exactly, does one define fame? Is it simple name recognition? Face recognition? Awareness of accomplishments/resume?

I'd think the precise definition of fame would have a big impact on exactly who's the world's most famous person.

For what it's worth, I remember reading a few years back that Skinny Elvis and Conventional Brunet Bearded Jesus were the two most recognized male faces in the world.

Famous? Or simply recognizable? Real or imagined? Living or dead?

    Jesus, Elvis, Santa Claus.

The Virgin Mary, Diana, Betty Crocker.

I don't understand how Michelle Wie's name never came up.

You have to think of who the people of Africa, India or China would know. You have three billion right there.

Maybe Bush. I would think soccer for the men. Possibly, Yao Ming.

OK, here is my choice for the men just because he is so electric and admired by the young. Beckham is a stiff to most of the purists I know.

    For women, it's tougher.

I do see the case for Jolie because of the adopting.

  9. I'd say President Bush these days. Ali made his last stand as most famous person at the '96 summer games.

For women, probably Jolie, especially now with her UN work in the 3rd world.

Listening to her on the Daily Show last night, it was amazing to hear how much she sounded like a diplomat. That's what being on the cover of every tabloid in the western hemisphere for 5 years running will do to someone, I guess.

I'd like to add Mao, Charlie Chaplin, Mickey Mouse and Mrs. Butterworth to my list, please.

    Male: Tiger Woods or Ali.
Female: Hilton, Lohan or Spears (and I despise every single one of them).

You think Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan and Britney Spears are more famous than the Queen of England?
