I realize that, but I was looking more traditionally. The Pacers and Nets had runs to the finals too, but historically these franchises haven’t done much.

Nope. The California Golden Seals moved to Cleveland where they were the Barons for a couple of seasons before folding and merging with the North Stars.

IIRC, the Gund brothers were involved and they somehow still had rights to the Bay Area, so they got the San Jose franchise when it was founded.

I think the Squires went belly-up during a season, while the Colonels and Spirits made to the end of that season.

Yep, and the two owners of the Spirits made hundreds of millions of dollars when the NBA agreed to give them a percentage of TV money in perpetuity in exchange for not suing. They only just agreed with the league on a settlement to end receiving the TV money in exchange for a check with a lot more zeroes.

According to Wikipedia (yeah, I know), the agreement was in 2014. One of the two brothers died in 2016.

One interesting thing that the Wikipedia entry indicated. The brothers each would get 45 percent of the annual share, and their lawyer pocketed 10 percent each and every year.
