Fayetteville is on a lot of lists, but no one seems to want to live there.

I must have said I didn't like winters very much, because I got a ton of cities in Texas, Mississippi and Florida. I've never even been to two of those states and don't really have a desire to go to Mississippi, let alone move there.

You too, huh? I also had three Michigan, three Minnesota and two Mizzou, including Columbia. I cannot begin to tell you how far from the truth Columbia being "home" for me would be.

Aside from the Wisconsin towns -- including La Crosse, which I do love -- I didn't like my list.

    Fayettenam? Can't imagine why.

My hometown and current place of residence is No. 1. Go figure. A lot of Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia as well. And Seattle, oddly enough.

We did a similar thread last year, right? I forget what my list was then.

OK . . . . I've lived in one of these places, have considered living in a couple others, but in general, my answers came up with a list of places I normally would not list among my top choices. I think (and thought as I answered it) that the "ideal housing price" question skews the results. But hey, I'm a journalist. I have to worry about these things.

This is a list that happens to a person who loves the big cities in sunny lands he has lived in, but also has taken a liking to midwest college towns. And who answers "I need a lot of sunny days" while also expressing appreciation for rural areas, mountains, and as many rainy days as possible.

    Little Rock, Arkansas
    Charleston, South Carolina
    Portland, Oregon
    Jacksonville, Florida
    Honolulu, Hawaii
    Norfolk, Virginia
    Knoxville, Tennessee
    Orlando, Florida
    Cincinnati, Ohio
    Chesapeake-Virginia Beach, Virginia
    Augusta, Georgia
    Baltimore, Maryland
    Baton Rouge, Louisiana
    Charlotte, North Carolina
    Houston, Texas
    Nashville, Tennessee
    Las Vegas, Nevada
    Memphis, Tennessee
    Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
    West Palm Beach, Florida
    Fort Worth, Texas
    Seattle, Washington
    Greenville, South Carolina
    Long Island, New York

I keep getting such varied results when I use this thing ... last time, I thought it was sponsored by the Connecticut Tourism Board.

    Charlotte, North Carolina
    Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
    Norfolk, Virginia
    Nashville, Tennessee
    El Paso, Texas
    Chesapeake/Virginia Beach, Virginia
    Cincinnati, Ohio
    St. Louis, Missouri
    Lexington, Kentucky
    Knoxville, Tennessee
    Fort Worth, Texas
    Tucson, Arizona
    Augusta, Georgia
    Memphis, Tennessee
    Seattle, Washington
    Atlanta, Georgia
    Long Island, New York
    Dallas, Texas
    Indianapolis, Indiana
    Phoenix, Arizona
    Austin, Texas
    Charleston, South Carolina
    San Antonio, Texas
    Orlando, Florida

2mcm: I would heartily recommend against moving to Kailua-Kona.

Not one place on my list is where I currently live, and I love where I live.
