Where are the moderate Americans?

Surely, moderate American leaders will want to be the first to condemn the Bush administration and the RCMP.

    Right?

This dude was only beaten with a metal cable. At least he wasn't subject to repeated listening of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Anybody who has followed the RCMP over the years know that despite their "always get our man" motto, it's often the wrong one.

They passed totally unrelieable information on to American authorities and when Mr. Amar was returning to Toronto he was detained by the Americans at Kennedy airport and then whisked away to Syria where he was held and tortured for a year.

It was a fuck-up by all involved.

The Globe & Mail devoted almost its entire front page to the story

Justice Dennis O'Connor came out with both barrels blasting in his report.

The RCMP asked the Americans to put Mr. Arar and Dr. Mazigh on a watch list as "Islamic extremist individuals suspected of being linked to the al-Qaeda terrorist movement," the report says.

"The RCMP had no basis for this description, which had the potential to create serious consequences for Mr. Arar in light of American attitudes and practices" at that time, the report says.

The Mounties also erroneously told the Americans Mr. Arar was in the Washington area on Sept. 11, 2001, when, in fact, he was in San Diego.

Washington, San Diego, what's the difference? They're both only 15 minutes away from Tahoe.

What the fuck is Muslim street? From your posts, I am assuming you believe all Muslims live on one street and have the same beliefs. I sincerely hope there aren't people somewhere else who look at biggoted, asswipe jerks who use terms like "Muslim Street" and think they speak for SportsJournalists.com Street.

You apparently lack the literacy skills neccessary to understand a popular phrase that has entered common useage to represent more than it's obvious meaning. But then again, maybe the tears in your eyes concerning Mr. Arar caused you to miss the murder of 4 Canadains, handing out candy to muslim children.

RCMP fucked up. Happens with these guys. Trust me, the Harper government will have to act on this--and quickly. The Mounties regularly act as if they were beyond the law--go back to the Quebec barn burnings of the 70's.

Of course, the U.S had a little hand in this too--deporting a Canadian citizen to Syria for interrogation and torture.

No one is clean on this one.
