    Former MLB player Doug Glanville?

This is the second column I've noticed recently that he's written. Both were informative, IMO.

Glanville has been writing for the Times for well over a year now.

Player perspective plus Ivy League education = pretty good stuff.

Can't find a citation but, referring to Garry Maddox, Glanville used to say something about following in the tradition of Phillies' centerfielders who read books on team flights.

I'm sure he meant Maddox & Dykstra.
