I thought the same thing at the time, but hockey players aren't usually the "sure thing" in the NHL that a player like Ewing, Shaq, or LeBron.

But, Pittsburgh did go from being on the brink of a move to a very healthy franchise and that was definitely a great thing for the NHL.

Heck, Franco could have been out of bounds as well.

The story I remember was a request for a helicopter.

It wasn't ruled a toughdown for like 10 minutes, right?

God, I love it when Madden just gets hot when that play is brought up.

The recent death of Curtis Watkins took me to the 1979 Final Four. That had to be crookeder than a San Francisco street. The NCAA had to decree a Magic vs. Bird final.

Didn't MSU destroy Penn and Bird played maybe the greatest game of his life against DePaul?

I think it was fixed because Indiana State has such a huge national following... :D

Seriously, when I see Indiana State vs. DePaul on the ESPN Classic guide I get excited.

Watching Bird play at that level was just amazing.

God, ESPN Classic was great before poker.

Sycamore Nation, all 100 of them, find your lack of faith disturbing.

Twenty years ago this summer, I was playing centerfield for the Lutheran Church my wife and I were attending, in the church league of a neighborhood in a large city. I was 3-for-5 with 4 RBI when I came up with a chance to drive in two more runs and pretty much put the game away. I was called out on strikes, looking, and the last two strikes hit the goddamn ground.
I'm not sure, but the ump very well could have been a moonlighting Tim Donaghy. The church league betting action was fierce that year.
I guess it's probably too late to demand a full investigation.
