Co-sign. NPP is a must-listen for me, and they just seem to keep getting better. The fall donation drive includes a George Romero "of the Dead" retrospective, which is audio gold for me.

My bookmarks are chock-full of podcasts. It's almost to the point where I'm surprised when I find music on my mp3 player.

Answer Me This (http://answermethispodcast.com/): Fun comedy podcast from the UK; a quick listen at about 30 minutes a show.
The Bugle (http://thebuglepodcast.com/): Updated link to my favorite satirical podcast. John Oliver and Andy Zaltzman bring the bullshit, and they bring it hard.
Sex Nerd Sandra (http://sexnerdsandra.libsyn.com/rss): Exactly what you'd expect from a sex-themed show on the Nerdist network. Consistently funny and informative.
Penn's Sunday School (http://pennsundayschool.com/): Monkeys, atheism and the Supreme Court with Penn Jillette.
Weird Things (http://weirdthings.com/category/podcasts/): A weekly (usually) rundown of weird news with Andrew Mayne, Justin Robert Young and -- one of my favorite people -- Brian Brushwood.
H.P. Podcraft (http://hppodcraft.com/): A literary podcast dedicated to H.P. Lovecraft. I'd tell you more, but some things should not be spoken.
Hardcore History (http://www.dancarlin.com/disp.php/hharchive) and Common Sense (http://www.dancarlin.com/disp.php/csarchive): Dan Carlin's podcasts are another must-listen for me. Releases are irregular at times, but what you get is so worth the wait.

And if you absolutely must listen to sports, I recommend Unsportsmanlike Conduct (http://www.stationcaster.com/stations/kozn/rss/?c=991) out of Omaha. They talk football, especially college football, just about every day regardless of season, and their show is blissfully free of homerism from the hosts even though Kevin Kugler is a Nebraska grad. (Mike'l Severe went to Sam Houston State.)

I never thought I would like Carolla but he is great.

His breakdown of Smuggler's Blues a couple weeks ago was one of the funniest things I have heard in a long time.

Also the Passion Fruit Iced Tea song is great.

I enjoy Carolla every once in a while, when he has a guest I like, but I don't know that I could listen to him daily. I do admire the podcast empire he's put together.

Larry Miller's podcast is pretty good, too.

Feb. 28, 2011, was not, as JP would say, a great day. Still hoping they do a reunion show at some point. Need less mustard, and more Jacuzzi Thoughts.

    Other shows I listen to:

    Dave Dameshek Football Program

EconTalk--George Mason professors sits down for about an hour every week with an economist or economics reporter to discuss their work. Comes at things from a very libertarian perspective, but always fair to his from all ends of the political spectrum. I disagree with him, but have never found him biased. He approaches all interviews with an open mind.

B.S. Report--Not a must-listen, but he occasionally has an interesting guest on. And he really does do a pretty good job when actually interviewing someone--he's gotten much better since he started. And always love the lines with Cousin Sal.

Grantland Podcast--Rarely listen, unless Klosterman is involved.

Jason Whitlock Podcast--Whitlock at his most reasonable. Better than his Twitter feed and (most, but not all) columns, although depending on your views of Whitlock that might not mean much. Also, ridiculous intro and outro you have to listen to at least once--it's really absurd.

Low Budget FM--Poor man's Daves of Thunder

Mohr Stories--Jay can get kind of annoying jumping over guests--especially when he does his dumb impressions--but usually have two comedians yucking it up, so it's enjoyable enough. And he does take his interviews with non-comedians a bit more seriously.

    Slate's Political Gabfest

This Week in Tech--Reporters roundtable every week. Good way to a get a condensed version of the week in tech news.

WTF w/ Marc Maron--Find him to be kind of an asshole and really irritating, but he has good guests on. I hate how he pulls the bullshit, "It must annoy you when the media ask you about X" as his not-so-subtle way of talking about X.

Loved Carolla when it first started and it was just him one-on-one with a guest. But the rants got old and the guests got terrible. Haven't listened since even before they moved to the God-awful morning radio format.

It's amazing that he puts out five shows a week. I don't think any of the other top podcasts come out more than two or sometimes three times a week.

Some of the guests are not great, but there have been a few guests who I was less than enthused about who wound up being really good.

Mohr Stories is the only one I catch regularly, unless I'm around the house on Saturdays to listen to Joe Rogan's podcast on the Opie & Anthony XM channel.

I agree that he'll pull in comedians that I've never heard, and that makes it tough to start, but some of them have a solid rapport with him, making for an entertaining hour or so. And I love his impersonations (particularly Colin Quinn and Harvey Keitel).

I thought I would enjoy Robert Kelly's "You Know What Dude" podcast, but he gets even more obscure stand-up guys than Jay Mohr. Occasionally, there's a Joe Derosa or Jim Norton drop-in, but it's so rare that I'm not interested in the rest.

I used to love SModcast; when he's not being overly annoying trying to sell his own shit and tell everyone how much smarter he is than all of Hollywood, Kevin Smith is very funny when paired with a.) marijuana; b.) Scott Mosier. I took a few months off, but I may give it another shot.

Bryan Callen is an amazing guest on Rogan's show... I don't consider him "obscure" by any stretch, but he's not a household name either.

I love what he did after he got fired from his radio gig. I think he was fired on a Thursday and his podcast began the next Monday or Tuesday. I love people who think like that. "Alright, radio didn't go well, what can we do next?"

He went from paying something like $10K a month for bandwidth at the beginning to now making about $5 million a year between advertising on the podcast and touring.

The amount of vacation time Stern took always bothered me. When he went to three days a week, I was like, "Fuck you and Sirius..." and that was when I canceled my subscription.

Joe Rogan sucks something awful at everything he does.
