What is the best band to come out since 2000?

Here's another fringe one, I think they started late 90s, maybe even '99. A Perfect Circle.
Saw them twice, once with Paz and once with Twiggy and James Iha ... both shows were outstanding.

Mainstream award goes to -- White Stripes or the Racontours.
Then, I'm personally not a fan but Gorillaz was a pretty hot band circa 2001. John Mayer hit the scene in 2000. You could make an argument for him, too.

Just under mainstream award goes to -- The National or LCD Soundsystem if that's your taste.

Way under the radar goes to -- Liars.

Arcade fire, Arctic Monkeys, We vs. the shark, Black Keys deserve some attention too.
    Likewise for Bon Iver.

They do start off pretty slow, but once you get past the 45 seconds or so of instrumental, it's pretty impressive stuff. Their first CD is great driving or walking music. I lose myself in it from time to time.

  11. I'm getting the feeling that there just aren't that many good guitar-driven rock 'n' roll bands any more. Is this accurate? In the '90s there were a ton of them. Even the second-tier bands like Cracker, Veruca Salt and Everclear were putting out tremendous albums.

Does someone need to come along and kick rock music in the ass again? I know all this is cyclical, but maybe the genre really is over :(

Other than the White Stripes and Black Keys, I'm drawing a blank, and I'm a pretty big music fan. But almost everything I buy is a band that started in the '90s (or '80s): R.E.M., Wilco, Counting Crows, the Black Crowes, etc., etc.

Fall Out Boy might have to be on the list... Franz Ferdinand... Probably before 2000, but The New Pornographers and Dashboard Confessional... Raconteurs was a good call...
