What is the appeal of Mickey Mouse?

You know, Bubbler, the Wal-Mart on the hotel strip in Kissimmee near Walt Disney World is purported to be the busiest Wal-Mart in the world.

Food for thought, if you're looking for material.

I'm a Daffy Duck/Bugs Bunny man, but as the parent of a 3-year-old I can see the appeal of Mickey Mouse.
If you have the Disney Channel and are awake at 8 a.m. Eastern, flip it on and watch the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cartoon (with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy & Pluto). My son loves it. There is some educational value to them. Besides, They Might Be Giants performs the theme song and the song that closes every episode- the "Hot Dog Dance"

I never had any affection or nostalgia for Disney characters or movies. I was really into the Muppets (now owned by Disney)/Sesame Street/Star Wars characters as a child in the late 1970s/early 1980s.

Mickey Mouse...the Paris Hilton of the cartoon world. Famous for being famous.

    Once was a magical place
    Over time it was lost
    Price increased the cost
Now the fortune of the kingdom
Is locked up in its dungeon vaults
The castle floor lies in traps
    With coiled wires set back
    Decoyed by old cheese
Now the drawbridge has been lifted
    As the millions
    They drop to their knees
They pay homage to a king
    Whose dreams are buried
    In their minds
    His tears are frozen stiff
    Icicles drip from his eyes

The cold wind blows as it snows
On those who fight to get in
    On heads that are small
    Disillusioned as they enter
    They're unaware what's
    Behind castle walls
But now it's written in stone
    The king has been overthrown
    By jesterly fools
And the power of the people
Shall come to believe they do rule

    Have they lost their heads
Or are they just all blind mice
    We've heard all their stories
    One too many times
    Hypnotized by fireflies
    That glow in the dark
    Midgets that disguise themselves
    As tiny little dwarves
    The parade that's electrical
    It serves no real purpose
Just takes up a lot of juice
    Just to impress us

Mickey Mouse is an *sshole, and Disney sucks, with the exception of the original 'Escape from Witch Mountain.'

You'll have to forgive me my concern about the Disney stewardship of the Muppets. They can only do harm. Pray they don't.

To use a wrestling analogy (I know, I know, I can't resist) ... John Cena is the Mickey Mouse of wrestling. Little kiddies love him, the grownups want him to either turn heel or get squashed by Bugs Bunny.

Of course DisneyWorld is a money-sucking hole. But if you can't enjoy taking your under-6 kids there*, well, get over yourself.

*I'm talking two days, tops, between Magic Kingdom and maybe one other Disney park. If you want to talk about a real cash burn, price a four-day or longer junket in Ratville.

A better question for down there might be "What is the appeal of Epcot Center?" Sure, everyone now goes to the Countries of the World to get hammered, but Epcot itself is stuck in the '80s.

Oh yeah...saw the Muppets movie yesterday and noticed Disney. Yikes. Do they have to own everything??

I used to get bothered every time the characters of an ABC show would go on vacation, they'd head to Disney. Then I decided to stop being bothered, and just not bother to watch it.
