SportsJournalists.com is a place where I went because I thought I might get insights into what was then my profession. I got those, all right. But I also got much more.

I got a community that made me comfortable enough to reveal deeply personal aspects of my life I have hithero been reluctant to disclose. I got a fun place where I could take part in unique memes, revel in fun with quotes, poke fun at certain members, cringe at others and want to smash others.

I got a place where I could feel connected to the profession I still love in spite of the fact it stabbed me in the back. I got a place where I could still feel as though I belonged in the field even though my biweekly pay is a fraction of what it once was. I got a place where I "met" many people and I actually physically met others.

Some people say this place is cheaper than therapy. I argue that this place is therapy in its own right.
