    For me, No. 44 will always be Jerry West. There's almost no number and no athlete that go together as much.

    Without Googling, I don't believe I could have guessed what number Erving wore with the 76ers. But I could with the Nets. Even though I can't recall ever seeing him play in the ABA (other than the occasional highlight).

    No doubt. Inexcusable that anyone would even think of choosing another 34 above Payton.

    And downright appalling if the alternative if choice is another running back who never even had a single four digit rushing season. Bo Jackson has been ridiculously overrated by history.

    Eh, the thread wasn't who is the best to wear each number, it's who do you associate. That makes it interesting because it's bound to be somewhat generational and regional.

    Bo Jackson sure wasn't the best, but if you are a certain age of course he comes to mind.
