SportsJournalists.com, Facebook, deadspin and barstoolsports.com. Oh, and internet porn.

So for me I guess that means the internet.

Damn, coffee, soda and cigarettes? I might recommend knocking at least one of those off the list. Or else your plan is to try and sleep the entire forty days.

The usual suspects: sweets and fast food. Guess I'll have to put those Thin Mints in the freezer again (see G. Scout cookies thread).

But hey, today's Fat Tuesday ... I think I hear the Potato Oles at Taco Johns calling my name. :) :)

I didn't say I was giving up coffee. I'm giving up coffee I pay for at Starbucks.

The religious assumption that you have to give something up in order to be rewarded later.

It's a lot like new year's resolutions or diets in general: mere jocularity unless it's a conscious lifestyle change. That's why I don't the resolutions or lent thing.

Meat for 40 days. Dairy products on Fridays. Lent is not fun.

Ouch. Fenian delivered it better anyway.

In my experience, it's more an acknowledgment of what's already been given up (Jesus dying on the cross for the sins of man) than anything you're giving up. The sacrifice is a metaphor, your way of understanding what it means to lose something you hold dear for the greater good. But I don't do it because if I love Jesus enough to give up on Starbucks, what am I saying about Him when I go back to it the day after Easter Sunday?

Also, am I going to be banned for the next few Fridays?
