I agree that you can't make that call. The group celebrating was in front of the bench and the girl who came off the bench didn't come that far. Terrible call and terrible way to lose a state championship.

Its a rule, but how about some situational calling?

Holy shit. This has been a weekend for some brutal situational calling (UCLA/Stanford, ETSU/Belmont, UCLA/Cal, and this)

That official is an asshole. No way you call a technical in that situation unless you're Ted Fucking Valentine.

    Nice job doucherocket.

I don't know why you are surprised. Mr. Official saw an opportunity to become part of (or rather, the story), and he took it. ::)

No comments from anyone from the losing team in that story? Jesus. I would have loved to have heard the vitriol from the Walters coach.

That's horrible. By-the-book officiating at its worst.

It was a shitty call. The bad thing is it takes away from a hell of a shot from the girl who won it.

The running on the court didn't seem to interfere with play anyway.

Here's a story with the commentary from the Walters coach - and it was done from the Fort Smith paper - which in this case, outhustled the Oklahoman on its own turf on the gamer. Good job, Buck Ringgold.

As his story shows, the tech is on the COACH.

Been then went to the other end to shoot the technical foul shots. She made the first, which cut Walters’ lead to one. But her second shot hit the back of the rim, bounced off and was deflected out of bounds by a Walters player.

Wasn't she shooting the foul shots by herself? How could the ball be deflected by a Walters player?

Didn't he leave the bench area to try to get the player who came out on the court to return to the bench?
