We don't see the appeal of A Christmas Story

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by sportschick, Dec 24, 2008.

  1. It's one of those Christmas movies with more substance than style, more little things to laugh about than just some random one-liners. There are some absolutely wonderful personalities throughout the entire movie.

The list of really great Christmas movies is a short one, and A Christmas Story is on my list.

Yeah, I don't get it either. Oh, well.

I'm not going to go into all the reasons this movie doesn't do it for me, but I watched several repeats of Bear Grylls earlier instead of the Leg Lamp (thought the lamp and the tongue on the pole scene do crack me up).

Watched "Christmas Vacation" tonight, too... still makes me literally laugh out loud at several points, most notably, "shitter's full!"

Watched it once. Unamusing as hell. Didn't get it.

Give me "It's a Wonderful Life" any day.

Confession - I've never seen ACS.

Miracle on 34th starts in 10 minutes on one of my HBOs. Hooray.

YES. Someone else considers "Die Hard" a Christmas movie!

    ("Die Hard II" as well)

If you ever needed to prove that sportswriters are among the crustiest and most cynical human beings on the planet, this thread would be a good place to start. What's the matter with all of you?

    Oh, we can be had.

    I cry at weddings.

Magoo's Scrooge engineering the purchase of the Biggest Turkey On Earth tears my heart out.

    But this? No.

I don't think Christmas Story is the kind of movie you're supposed to be crying over.

If it makes me less Scrooge-ish, I am watching The Stephen Colbert Christmas Special.

Why 24 hours of THIS movie? Why not 24 hours of "It's A Wonderful Life"?

Sorry. I just CAN'T enjoy "A Christmas Story."

    At all.

I don't think it makes me crusty or cynical.

    (in fact, merry christmas)
