    Description:

    Washingtonpost.com is seeking a sports editor to develop and implement a strategy for sports coverage on washingtonpost.com. This is a mid-level position in the washingtonpost.com newsroom, reporting the Managing Editor. The job demands strong knowledge of sports and the Web, the highest attention to detail, demonstrated professional news judgment, an ability to respond quickly and effectively to high-pressure breaking news situations, and strong collaboration and communication skills. The Sports Editor is responsible for: * Developing a Web sports strategy for washingtonpost.com, working closely with The Washington Post newspaper. * Managing a staff of five full-time employees * Contributing to the planning and production of special projects * Contributing to newsroom planning meetings and newsroom managers’ meetings * Attendance at planning meetings at The Washington Post newspaper * Daily editing and production work in support of washingtonpost.com’s sports section

    The person who fills this position may also be expected to occasionally perform other duties in support of washingtonpost.com’s overall news coverage.

    This is not a writing job. QUALIFICATIONS * Demonstrated understanding of Sports news. * Demonstrated knowledge of the Web and the changing media landscape. * Ability to use online editing and publishing tools, and ability to adapt quickly. * Strong news judgment and attention to detail. * Good work ethic and self-starting attitude. * Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills. * College degree.

    The job get's the coveted boots seal of approval for a couple of reasons. The main one is that the Post is moving more and more towards being an outstanding web-based operation.
    Now where can you go from there? I wish I had an answer but the Post is still the Post.

    word on the street is that they've narrowed it down to the finalists but are still open to interviewing qualified people
