I avoided posting anything about this story when it first came out because, frankly, calling more attention to it would be complicit in its deliberate attempt to repeat things that are false.

But after having been blasted by their own editorial cartoonist, a bunch of respected Web sites, the Senator himself and their own ombud, you'd think the writer and editor at the Post would be a little more contrite than this.

The Post's disgraceful performance in the wake of this admin's post 9/11 shenanigans leaves it wide-open to such attacks/abuse, for the forseeable.

The Washington Post is a horrible paper. The editors involved should be fired.

  4. The Washington Post is a wonderful paper with across-the-board excellent writing. Occasionally, it does political stuff badly. Some of its recent errors have been egregious, but it'd be hard not to do some political stuff badly when you do more political stuff than anybody else.

    That dog won't hunt.

When you do as much political stuff as they do, you ought to know better than to repeat rumors and pass it off as analysis.

It's fucking bush league, and the Post ought to be better.

  6. Oh, absolutely - the story was very very bad. But the Post, overall, is (quite obviously) one of the best.

    Agreed.

The non-apology apology from the editor really sticks in my craw, though.

The Jayson Blair scandal painted us all with a not-to-be-trusted brush. Then there's this.

We should ALL be more careful.

The Post is so often, so incredibly politically correct, that they intentionally bend over the other way, often just reflexively, to show they are capable of doing so.

The Post's National and Political reporters & editors are often so arrogant and self righteous that Judith Miller wold have a hard time getting noticed.
