One of my main concerns as a parent is my kids getting caught up in the Social Media Outrage Machine.

They have the same impulses as I did to do stupid shit, and they're stubborn enough to do that stupid shit regardless of what I say, just like I was.

I'd surely have been blacklisted by the time I was 14-15.

LOL. Aren't ready academically. That's the whole fucking point of college!

They made a dumb joke in 30 bad seconds of their lives.

You're completely whiffing on this one, sorry. You should stop.

No shit. If every stupid thing I did as a teen was recorded for posterity, I'd be in deep shit.

Given how much schools teach about tolerance and diversity and the like, shouldn't these kids know better?

Or is this a backlash to those efforts?

Of course they do. It was a bad spontaneous joke. They're learning their lesson. That's a big part of being young and naive.

Yeah, teenagers are great about learning their lessons, doing what the adults and authority figures tell them to do and not reflexively rebelling.

Obviously, white kids can't do this but minority kids can. Hence the zero level teenage pregnancy rate among black teen inner city females. 100% graduation rate among black male HS teens. Low crime rates, low drug usage. These kids all know better.

But let's shame the kids who do the right thing 98% of the time and take great joy and moral superiority when they fail to meet expectations 100% of the time.
