News slowly leaking. One rumor has the singer-songwriter attempting suicide:

The photo with John's link shows him sitting in a wheelchair. What exactly was the nature of his ailment(s)?

  4. Mr. Chesnutt, 45, has been in a wheelchair since a car accident when he was 18

Only read the Athens story and it didn't say. Guess they assumed everyone in Athens already knew that, which is quite a leap of faith.

He was driving drunk at age 18 and crashed.

Heartbreaking video of a song about suicide

came into chestnutt's music, like i do with many bands/musicians, through the sidedoor, after hearing widespread panic cover some of his tunes. some dark songs and understandable.

Not to be flip, but every time I see the thread title I think "I know, I know.. it's serious."

Last night NPR's "Fresh Air" had a memorial show for Chestnutt and played a few of his songs.

Now, I know why I hadn't heard of him.
