In other shocking news, I hear that some people believe ESPN may be a hostile work environment for women.

I live and work in kind of a bubble. Girls/Women's basketball is huge. For the high school doubleheaders, the crowd is there for the girls game and leaves by halftime of the boys. We have five high schools in the county. Three of the girls' teams made the state tournament this year. Only one of the boys teams made it out of the district tournament, and that's because they played one of the other local schools.

Living in the shadow of Knoxville, the ABSOLUTE NO. 1 complaint we get is if we don't have in the TV log when the Lady Vols play.

That's a whole different issue. I have no problem with women covering or playing sports. I just don't have much of an interest in watching, beyond tennis and the Olympics and maybe golf (which seems to have been taken over by the Koreans lately).

sports doesn't need to be 'covered' to have value.

just do it. doesn't matter who is watching.

Sure it does. How else is little Joanie supposed to get a college scholarship if no one writes about her two points in the paper?

Well, it is if they're paying rights fees (hence ESPN's ample promotion of the NCAA tourney).

The bigger issue here is that, given all of the cable/satellite channels that have popped up in the last 5 years or so (ESPNU, FCS, Big Ten, MTN, etc.), there's far more women's sports on TV than ever before.

    Sorry Trojans.

This impressive study for use by the NCAA didn't buy you any favor with the hell that hit your football program today. Couldn't have happened to a classier coach.

Maybe the bigger question should be why fans dont support girls sports ? It's amazing the WNBA is still around attendance is horrible, just like women professional soccer games.

Obviously the writer doesn't pay attention when ESPN spends nearly an entire month showing the Women's NCAA Basketball Tournament or three weeks showing regionals, Super Regionals and Women's College World Series.

Because relatively speaking, they aren't very good.

If USC cared so much about women's sports, they would have gotten NCAA sanctions over them
