Oklahoma - lose your bowl game by three touchdowns, move up 4 spots!

And why is Michigan ranked ?

Precisely my reasoning. Of course, two-loss SEC champs have a knack for finding their way into the BCSNCG, so who knows?

They won't be there in January. OU that is.

because the Big Ten is horrible and they should still win eight games even with the horror show they're going to be putting on the field.

Yeah, unfortunately I don't see college football being as bonkers as last year...so two losses won't cut it.

I really can't see anyone other than Oklahoma - and maybe the USC-OSU winner - going undefeated. so there will still be a slot for a team with a loss.

Didn't ESPN bail on this poll a couple years ago?

Yes, although it does still have its name on the basketball poll.

If OSU wins at the Coliseum and runs the table in the Big 10, I would have no problem with them going back. Did the Buffalo Bills' continual Super Bowl fail mean that the AFC playoffs were a sham?

ESPN took its name off the football poll when the coaches refused to make their ballots public.

Only problem with waiting three, four weeks into the season to release polls? Teams like Kansas who might be legit but haven't played anyone still won't receive any votes until mid-October -- it took KU some time to finally break the top 10. And teams like USC who start in the top five will still receive the benefit of the doubt, even with a bad loss or two (remember everyone clamoring about how they maybe should have been in the BCS game, despite a home loss to Stanford?).

Anybody know the last time Florida State didn't make the coaches' preseason poll? I'm guessing it's been a while.
