MSNBC has a former pilot explaining what may have happened. He said that airlines throw frozen turkeys into the engines in an attempt to see how much damage large birds could do. He theorized that a flock of geese could have damaged two engines, forcing the emergency landing.

Holy crap. Good luck to all of the passengers. As if many of you didn't know, 45 degrees is a very dangerous water temperature.

They were saying on TV hypothermia would set in in a matter of minutes.

Which will keep people from being able to swim, but also allow for them to go without oxygen a litlle longer.

Hell of a job by the pilot to get that thing down in one piece. Nice to see the ferries helping out.

but it sounds like it didn't take that many minutes to get people off.

But, like the Andes crash, the inside of the fuselage should be reasonable, with the cumulative body heat battling that confined amount of water.

Not early. But now they're saying the over-wing exits are submerged. So now the question becomes how to get the rest of the people off the plane.

Instant decision and the right one.

From 3,000 feet, what sort of grade is it to land in the river without threatening homes on the land on either side?
