Early 1980s, I worked in the type of newsroom where almost the entire night shift would go out drinking together. Editors, reporters, printers. One night after the bar closed there were about two dozen of us in the parking lot, passing around joints, and it finally occured to someone: Holy crap, the local cops could take out a third of the newsroom in one fell swoop if they happened to drive by at this moment. What a scene that would have been. And I image the competing newspaper would have had some fun with it on A-1, although its staff was not exactly the Mormon Tabernacle Choir either. But that was the culture at the time. Not only didn't management have a problem with it, management participated enthusiastically, as though it were a weekly corporate retreat. The thought of suspending a good journalist for pot, especially one who's apparently anal rententive enough to seal it up in little jars as if it were a dry rub about to be marketed at a ribs restaurant, still strikes me as weird.

Doubt he's got some regular ol' watchamacallit in those jars. Don't know how they did it in the early '80s, but it takes a jar or something similar to contain the smell of good green. At least that's the word on the street.
