Georgia's Grady College of Journalism got a big gift to start a sports journalism program, and announced it today. The kickoff video with Conrad Fink is kinda funny:

    And for a written explanation:

Lesson 1: Every SEC football program is on the up-and-up and don't you fucking forget it.

How about adding self-defense classes for dealing with soccer parents?

I can see the curriculum now:

TWITTER 101 - How following even the lowliest scrub or team employee can lead to a big scoop.

FACE TIME - It's not what you write, but what you say, preferably at a high volume on TV or radio, that makes a journalist.

ENGAGEMENT 302 - You haven't really made it, until you get called out in print or on video by a player or coach and BECOME the story.

Tomorrow their engineering school will be announcing the creation of a Studebaker and Hudson Mechanics major program.

If you're covering a football game, pray your dog does not run out on to the field.

I wonder if good students will be kicked out of the program right in the middle of a good run, just as training for layoffs?

I taught a sportswriting class where I showed the class a (slightly shortened) football game, then handed them a page of quotes and gave them an hour to write a 12-15 inch gamer.

For this class they should teach them how to file for unemployment.
