Two tin cans and a string

Anyone try this as a kid? Take two empty tin cans, attach a string between the centers of the end of each can, stretch it tight, and you could talk to each other. Put your ear up and listen, then reply back.

Damned if you couldn't be 100 feet apart and hear each other clear as a bell.

I know certain communications companies where this is a distinct challenge.

So I vote for Two Tin Cans And A String for my favorite communicating device.

I never had anyone to hold the second can.

To follow along with the thread, my dad and I used two Dixie cups and a string.

Nah, I always used this one.

(Damn, what's the odds that I would get to post this photo on two threads within minutes of each other?)
