What happens when a goal the type of which has been illegal throughout the playoffs is scored in the third overtime of a game that could decide the Stanley Cup but it's not sufficiently reviewed because the commissioner wants to get the game over by hook or crook and later produces a mysterious memo that no one got ... wait, that already happened, didn't it?

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Part II of the original question is still out there. The active player with the highest career batting average in the American League at the start of play on Monday was ...

    Not Joe Mauer?
Does the 150 career ABs still hold true?

Ichiro is .330, Mauer is .324.

An old-timer at my shop asked me this question a long time ago, and I think it's fitting:

A ball is hit hard and splits in half on the line; one half fair and the other foul. Is it fair or is it foul?

    Wrong answer.

    The answer is that it's a ball-buster.

To be honest, I'm shocked that you didn't pick up on the joke. A person we both know--one that somehow is older than you!--asked me that question years ago. :)

I have no clue who the AL guy is.

I looked at every roster, and I have come up empty.

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

35-year-old, career minor leaguer with 148 ABs (163 plate appearances).

    Just should count...

That's why they call it trivia ...

Great story, great guy, according to the Seattle media.
