The vet at the bottom where it says "Ask the Vet" is the BEST VET EVER! She is my little furbabies' vet and I just love her. I've been using her for seven years now, and I wouldn't take my dogs to any other place.

Per the crate training, I read about adjustable crates that many people endorse. It grows with the dog so you won't have to purchase multiple ones.

Per the introductory clause, please ignore this. Labs tend to be good dogs anyway, without the need to run electrical current through them.

Don't get a puppy until you've read about three books on it. The mistakes you make early will be mistakes you pay for for a long time. Have a plan, and it will be a much better experience.

You don't have to run electrical current through your dog.
A gas oven will cook it faster.

For folks who would use a shock collar, imagine if you were wearing one and took a hit every time you did something someone else perceived as wrong.

I've held a shock collar in my hand and shocked myself. I'll never use one.

I lived with a few people during my last semester of college and we had a little golden retriever puppy. I think the most cruel training you could do would be to resort to a shock collar. We kennel trained him for awhile before he became used to it becoming his bed at night. The most important training you can do is potty train your puppy, though. After several weeks of taking him outside, letting him do his business, rewarding him both by treats and verbal reinforcement, he became used to going to the door when he needed to go out.

Find your nearest pet store, too. Most will have some books you can leaf through that will give you step-by-step training schedules you can follow to ensure that your puppy is trained properly.

The Grandpa, is a rare moment of stupidity (OK, more a rare moment of being flat-out cruel) thought about getting something called a "shock pad" to keep our cat off the couch. I told him, sure, spend the fucking money to get it. But, when we get home, you're going to sit on it first then decide if you want to use it.

He brought it back an hour after sitting on hit and got his money back. What did I get out of this? Shit, 20 years of comedy to come.

Thank you, Granny. The shock collar is only going to strike fear into your puppy and may result in a more cruel personality when it gets older. If you have a shock collar, get rid of it immediately because you wasted your money.
