The whole reason these recalls were held was to try to reverse the collective bargaining ruling. They can't do that, so it's a failure for the democrats.

They picked up two spots, but they don't have the majority, so they failed. There's really no middle ground here, you either won or you lost.

    They lost.

Tell that to the two GOPers who were recalled.

Walker is also hemmed in. It's a one-vote majority for the GOP and one of the GOPers voted with the Democrats back when the shit hit the fan back in March. No guarantee he will continue to do so, but Walker lost his ability to ramrod anything through the statehouse.

Mizzou, I'd expect that outlook from others on here, but I really believe you're more intelligent than to frame it like that.

Sure, they lost their bid to take control of the Wisconsin Senate through the recalls.

But they knocked two Republicans out.

It's rare to even get a recall election going.

They also managed to get some unknown to nearly win a state Supreme Court race against a two-decade incumbent. Unheard of.

Only in the minds of the deluded is this a slam-dunk victory for the Republicans. All they won was breathing room.

Well, you have six recall elections. You have the union pouring money to the democratic challengers, much like they did in the judicial race.

Was it a total waste? No, but they fell way short of accomplishing what they wanted to.

Personally, I hate recalls. We hold elections for a reason and those people, short of doing something illegal, should be able to serve their terms and then be held accountable if and when they run for re-election.

I felt that way when California recalled Gray Davis, who was a dreadful governor, but he was the guy they elected.

    Hear, here.

If the GOP didn't like Gray Davis, it should have found a better 2002 candidate than Bill freaking Simon.

It's still amazing eight recall efforts could make the ballot. In some of those districts, the GOP cheeseheads are just content that football is back. Plus, they don't want to support those rich liberal teachers and other government workers.

Right. Elections have consequences. You don't elect a guy and then change your mind a couple years later.

If you want them gone, when they run for re-election, don't vote for them.

There are a lot of people who are unhappy with the current president and there were a lot of people unhappy with his predecessor. But recalling either would be idiotic. Impeaching Clinton was idiotic.

That's a more reasonable position than claiming the Democrats "lost" because they didn't hit their maximum number.

Then you haven't been paying attention. Nuanced arguments aren't Mizzou's strength, especially when it comes to politics.

Rules are rules. The rules allow for a recall.
