And if you come back in the summer, they have an absolutely fabulous patio out back.

Funky place. If you like good pub food it IS your kinda place

Another place, where we hosted a dinner at the Toronto sj outing a number of years ago, is Betty's, about a fifteen or twenty minute walk from Yonge and King.

And finally on Front Street east of Yonge is C'est What? Great selection of beers and a half decent menu

I'll come up with a few more in the next day or so.

    Sir and your Madame,

Get on the subway and get off at Chester.

Take a left (east) on Danforth to Logan. 1. On the south side, there's a place called Lolita's Lust. I took five Ottawa Senators there on one road trip and on the next I had to get them a table for 12. Same reaction every other time. I've never had a soul say he didn't love his meal. 2. Directly across the street (north side) is a place called Pan, though the signage is in Greek lettering, so it's a little hard to read. When the Rolling Stones are in Toronto, where the rehearse pre-tours, the owners of Pan (same ones as Lolita's Lust) close the place for Mick-Keef etc's private parties. If it's good enough for them, it should at least be a pass on your list. Both places do an updated Mediterranean menu, very cool setting at Lolita's is an edge in my view. It sort of looks like a porn house from outside--the windows are blacked out, like they want no one to know.

A little more modest but more fun and very meaty in a bar-ish setting.

Chester Station again. Cross at the light to the south side. Walk about 50 yards, past the coffee shop and the Indian resto and you'll find the Auld Spot.

    YHS, etc

I knew as soon as Mr Friend O' showed up he'd blow whatever lameass, touristy-type suggestion I had right out the window.

Deux Gloves, pay close attention to this man when he speaks, er, writes. This has been well researched.

    Sir,

You can drink at PJ's but you can't eat there. Mediocre fare. Great bar environment handy to downtown.

Is the Orchard Park Tavern still around?

  7. Don't disagree that the meal isnt exceptional, but for a lunch its more than fine. Was pitching more for environment than the food

I know it's out of your price range, but Dr. J and I had a fabulous time at Centro (sp?, it's been a long time) when we went for a night alone on the outing. We were celebrating our anniversary too.

JR was right for on with this place too:

    We had a great time.

Depends on what you're in the mood for. Tough choice in one of the best restaurant cities in the world.

    I am a fan.

Great suggestions. Thanks everyone. I'm still open for more though. Maybe I'll just have to skip the game I'm going to and eat instead! I'm gonna let my wife pore over them and make the final call.

Another thumbs up for The Rebel House. And Farmer J ... Betty's was my pick. It's a block from the Canadian Opera Company rehearsal halls. Credit where it's due and all. :D

Anybody been to Trattoria Mercatto? My wife found it online and thinks it looks good.
