Toronto Mayor Rob Ford tossed from office

The problem is, if Ford's many potential opponents in 2014 split the vote, he'll go right back into office for another four years.

 

A split electorate wasn't what got Ford in last time. Well before the election, all serious candidates had dropped out save for Smitherman. And he seemed to say nothing, inspire nobody, and provide no reason whatsoever to vote for him. A Ford landslide was no surprise IMO.

Not saying he'll win (I'm not even convinced he'll run) in 2014, but unless a credible alternative steps up it's entirely possible to imagine him holding on to the job.

 

Oh, I know it wasn't a split vote last time. Frankly, Furious George Smitherman was unelectable.

The funny thing is that, in 2010, repeat electoral failure John Tory finally had a race he could have won. So, naturally, he didn't run.

Hilarious driveway drama. Saw the video in the Toronto Star yesterday. It's a story that just keeps on giving. And I assume it will blow up again when the actual crack-smoking video gets out.

And his supporters (many of whom live in our neighbourhood) don't give a shit about any of this. If anything, it makes them feel sorry for him. <sigh>

 

Marion Barry went to federal prison for crack-related offenses (and was videotaped smoking it) and actually got re-elected when he got out. Twice. And currently holds another office.

 

He was filmed urinating behind a public school.
