Actually, I seem to recall reading that he was New York Jets fan and asked them if he could name his team after them.

I'm not sure if Bobby Hull was known as the Golden Jet before or after he went north to Winnipeg.

Pretty sure he was. It was just a coincidence that he ended up in Winnipeg.

By the way, Bill Hunter was the first owner of the Edmonton Oilers. Ben Hatskin founded the Winnipeg Jets.....and he named them after the Junior A team he had founded in 1967, a franchise that's still in the WHL today and is now known as the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

If I remember correctly Hunter also nearly made Saskatoon an NHL town as well, just about brought the Blues North in the 80s.

Ralston-Purina was bailing out and Harry Ornest stepped up. Blues missed a draft due to the debacle. Ornest had his critics, but he saved hockey in St. Louis.

As a Blues fan I wonder what might have been had they not missed that draft. With Steve Yzerman, Cam Neely, Tom Barrasso and Pat LaFontaine all taken in the first 10 picks, there were some franchise-changing players available.

As a former St Louisian who, as a teenager who spent his grocery money on half-season tickets (loser!), I can tell you the Blues could have had Stevie Y wearing #19, next to Brian Sutter and Joey Mullen...

...and they still would have lost series after series to a lower-seeded Norris Division team with a hot goalie (Alain Chevier, Jon Casey). #StillBitter

Ornest saved hockey in St. Louis...and promptly helped give Calgary the title in 1989 with the Ron Caron-led trades. Yes, the Blues got Brett Hull out of the deals but Calgary got the cup. Caron's late-season deal in 1991 killed the momentum and chemistry of the best Blues team I've ever seen. 104 points...bounced by the damn North Stars.

However, the day the '93 Blues swept the Blackhawks - and Belfour went nuts, breaking his stick - ranks as a great day,
