With the Dems it was easier to just pick anyone, because they will likely win more senate and house seats.

My thought with the Republicans, is that aside from Lieberman (who votes with the Dems on most anyway as an indy), McCain should avoid taking any senate or house seats away from the Republicans if at all possible. So I weighted the Govs and former Govs and congressmen higher.

This is a brilliant idea, so I'm breaking my no-political-threads rule to participate:

    Democrats
    1. Sen. Jim Webb (VA)
    8. Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) (Sweet Jesus, this would be awful.)
    5. Gov. Bill Richardson (NM)
    4. Gov. Kathleen Sebelius (KS)
    3. Gov. Ted Strickland (OH)
    11. Gov. Ed Rendell (PA)
    7. Gov. Tim Kaine (VA)
    15. Fmr. Sen. John Edwards (NC) (upset special...how could Obama possibly pick Clinton?)

    Republicans
    1. Gov. Tim Pawlenty (MN)
    9. Gov. Mark Sanford (SC)
    12. Gov. Jon Huntsman (UT)
    4. Fmr. Gov. Mitt Romney (MA)
    14. Gov. Sarah Palin (AK)
    11. Rep. Paul Ryan (WI)
    7. Sen. John Thune (SD)
    2. Gov. Charlie Crist (FL)

Reviewing the early ballots, there's a lot of love for the chalk. The committee did a great job, as usual. [/NCAAhoopscoach]

Really tough call on the 5/14 matchup with the Democrats...I like Napolitano as a dark horse, and picking the governor of McCain's state would be ballsy and unconventional. I was surprised to see Sebelius seeded so high, but Daschle belongs in the play-in game, if not the Veep-NIT.

On the Republican side, Jindal was very highly seeded, too...tough to pick the governor of Utah, but I had no choice there. I'd like to see Lieberman, but I think McCain can't afford to stick his finger in the caucus' eye by tabbing a Democrat. Pawlenty really is the Evan Bayh of Republicans...no one really seems to like either one, but everyone sort of assumes they'd be a viable choice because they don't seem offensive to anyone.
