    You are aware this is just the first step of the investigation, correct?

    These penalties are straight out of the NCAA playbook involving extra benefits and are in line with other cases.

    The issues involving coaches being involved, failure to monitor, lack of institutional control will be addressed later.

    Yup. They expedited this because the first game is Monday.

    Exactly. I haven't read the details but this allows Miami to appeal in an effort to get some of the suspensions reduced.

    I have to say, I'm pretty agnostic about the NCAA rules in the first place, but even if it's proven that these guys did everything, it still doesn't add up to one Cam Newton. I guess Miami's mistake was that this episode didn't push so deep into the season that taking action would cost the NCAA its Heisman Trophy winner and national champion.
