The songs you keep playing

  1. "Bobby Brown." One of my all-time favorite Zappa songs from my all-time favorite Zappa album, "Sheik Yerbouti." (Sound it out.)

The album starts with "I Have Been In You" and only gets better.

Me and my best friend in high school had to be the only 17-year-olds in the state of Arkansas listening to Joe's Garage every day. When I got my laptop earlier this year, the first songs I downloaded were "Catholic Girls," Crew Slut" and "Why Does it Hurt When I Pee?"

Often lost in the hilarity of the song titles and lyrics is the fact that Zappa was a great musician and the Mothers were an incredible band. When you can regularly incorporate a xylophone into rock and roll, you're damn good.

OK, I heard this song on a classic rock station the other day and can't get it out of my head. The problem is, I don't know the name or who sings it.

It starts out slowly with a guitar riff thatis probably very well-known...then it busts into a reggae beat before the lead singer sings a drawn-out "Diane" or "Dying" three or four times before the meat of the song starts.

    Any ideas?

Right now, it's OutKast's "Morris Brown" before I walk into the office every day. Great song with the marching band backing to make me think college football ... yeah, I love that track.

Heard a bit of JT's CD the other day. I've got to say I was surprised (in a good way).
