to be fair, the bats they use now don't quite have that annoying ping of yesteryear. definitely not the crack of the bat you hear in the bigs, but more like a dull thud.

Baylor was there that year too.

Mizzou hosted one just a few years ago.

So have Notre Dame, Oregon State, Nebraska and Michigan. All within the last five years.

The committee usually gives a regional to a token northern school, if any are reasonably deserving to host and have the facilities. Minnesota could have been in that equation this year but might have been a 2 seed. I think St. John's has hosted as a 2 or 3 seed in recent years.

The Gophers don't have an NCAA host-worthy park at this point. They will in a few years though.

Oz's team did not get a kind draw.

yeah, northern teams are rarely deserving in the NCAA's eyes

Having Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine as regional site hosts rocks. It's usually the one time during the entire college sports year when the Big West Conference is actually BIG!

No, they didn't. But the Jayhawks can't complain too much after going 0-3 in the Big 12 tournament. I'm just happy they made it in, period, for the first time since 2006.

Still doesn't explain how Baylor or Oklahoma State (which didn't even make the Big 12 tournament) got in.
A majority of the teams in the tournament have two quality starters.

Okie State all over Bama at Clemson, up 7-0 in the top of the third.
