Nothing says Drunken Asshole Fanbois like a Miami Hurricanes football game.

A few weeks ago a Ravens fan walked into the Dawg Pound alone and recorded himself taunting fans. Nothing happened. Security didn't even escort the guy out.

Went to one NFL game 15 years ago. A Niners fan, I went to Atlanta and was taunted by drunks on the way out after we lost. Never been back.

This is most definitely not a California problem. I have never been to a game in Tampa where there wasn't at least the threat of a fight breaking out. But I've been to a couple of games in New Orleans and Atlanta and haven't seen such a thing. I think some teams just attract a more blue-collar crowd, and I'm not sure why. And alcohol is most definitely THE factor. But there is always a "gangster/thug" element at any NFL game I've been to.
As far as MMA goes, it doesn't seem all that much more violent than boxing, but the few times I've accidentally ended up in a bar that had shown a PPV earlier in the night, there has been a fight. Just brings out the tough guys, I guess.

Other than that whole kicking thing....and that whole you can keep hitting them when they're down thingy.....other than that, good point.

Yeah, I guess I don't watch enough of it. Doesn't seem as violent as I expected it to be when I have seen it, though. You're right about the hitting while they're down. And elbows and knees can do damage, but the fist seems far more dangerous than the foot. If you kick someone as hard as you can, you're likely to break the foot, I would think.

Point is its not a sport. It's a bar fight. Its a legalized version of what we see at 2 a.m. on a Saturday when someone usually yells, "You fuckin looking at my girl, motherfucker??!!" And the thugs and wannabe thugs in this country eat it up and have made it a billion dollar industry.

Yeah, I agree. I guess I am just getting more used to it. But boxing isn't much better, which was really the point I weakly tried to make.

I don't disagree on boxing, although it did seem like a more fair fight by eliminating the use of legs and making an opponent back off when there was a knockdown. Made it less barbaric, albeit barely.

My point on MMA wasn't really about the sport even. It was about the crowd.

Boxing has a history as the gentleman's sport, part of polite society. MMA grew up with a counterculture fueled by speed, steroids, street violence and pornography. That's what the fans bring to NFL games.

Whoa now. I agree the average MMA fan can be rough around the edges, but not all. There is definitely a similarity between those fans and the ones at my NFL stadium. But I think fan bases are different from team to team in the NFL. There are plenty of brawls going on in boxing arenas these days too.

Went to a Predators game Saturday night and not only did I not get knocked out in the pisser, the guy behind me offered me the open stall.
