TRENTON - Police cracked the Arrel Bell murder case by reading instant messages in gang slang on MySpace between Blood gang members, prosecutors said yesterday in Mercer Court.
Bell, 19, of Eculid Avenue, a member of the Sex Money Murder set of the street gang, was found shot to death in Stacy Park at the Hermitage Avenue overpass on May 1 at 7:58 p.m., said Assistant Prosecutor Brian McCauley.
Fellow gang member Karim Sampson, 19, of the 800 block of Quinton Avenue, wanted him dead because he thought Bell was ratting him out to police after the two were arrested in June 2007 for robbing two men of several hundred dollars in cash, according to the prosecutor.
“Members of the set had individual pages on MySpace. Once the records of the instant messaging on April 30 were secured and based on the information we received it indicates that plans were being made to kill “Broadway,” which is the gang name for Mr. Bell. He was not cooperating with police,” McCauley said at the bail hearing.
“(Gang member John) Murphy gave a full confession. He said in his instant message “give it up” which means that a murder was being planned and he may be responsible for driving Bell to the murder location.”
Arrested in connection with Bell’s murder were Murphy, 19, of the 100 block of Hoffman Avenue, Sampson, Keith Williams, 19, of the 100 block of Frasier Avenue and Brandon Edwards, 20 of West End Avenue.
All were charged with conspiracy to commit murder, McCauley said.
McCauley said there were several instant messages between Sampson and Williams, a five-star general in the gang.
“One said Sampson was going to give Broadway “a bottle for what he did” and “let’s do it tonight” and “let’s go to the park.” No one is denying that the conversation was about the killing of Arrel Bell,” McCauley said.
A search of William’s house by police turned up a gun, bullets and shotgun shells, the prosecutor said.
Sampson is being held on $500,000 bail, Williams on $500,000, Edwards on $300,000 and Murphy on $250,000.

Numbskulls should have written the message in a secreter code -- like Pig Latin.

Plus I heard one of them was passing around some pictures of the murder that were supposed to stay private.

Yeah, if you're gonna discuss murdering a gang member on Myspace and post funny pictures of your and your boys posing over the dead body, don't invite cops to be your friends.
