    wait ... you let your buddy make a decision you knew he'd later regret, and you call that being a good / evolved wingman, the person who's supposed to get his back, especially when he may not be thinking clearly because he's drunk?

    i'd knock my best friends out before letting them do something i know they'd regret, but it's also true that i've let my not-so-best friends do what they will ...

    to be clear, my gripe and two cents isn't with what you did, but with the job description of wingman ...
